Recycled car and bike bits = scary fire breathing robot dog

Take 1-part crazy guy with welding equipment and 2-parts totally recycled Citroen cars and other bits and you get this amazing (and quite scary) machine. Like a bit player from Wall-E this character which has galloping horse-like legs at the front and a couple of wheels at the back is named LRRY-1, that's pronounced "Larry" with a 1 on the end (I assume that means there will be more).

Not only does it gallop androll it also breathes fire out of its freaky head which officially makes it scarier that the lame motorbike terminators in the upcoming film. Make sure you check out the video below to really get an idea of what this thing is capable of. Oh, did I mention it's made from no new materials at all, i.e. all recycled bits and pieces.

Reminds me a bit of "Dog" from the Half-Life series... oh, and thanks for the heads up Engadget!

Artist Makes Carpark Signs Interesting

I love getting news about Australia via international sources, especially when it's something as cool as this.

A German-born, Aussie resident designer by the name of Axel Peemöller has taken the perspective-based ads we see a lot in sports television these days and painted up some signs in the carpark of the Eureka Tower in Melbourne. These mind-bending signs use simple mathematics and some thinking ahead to produce words that appear to float in space but only from the right angle.

James Cameron's Avatar: First Official Artwork

The news blowing around the internet today is that someone scored a crew t-shirt from James Cameron's latest film Avatar. No, nothing to do with Aang and his gang of benders but rather a feature film with the story "...of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival."

I'm not going to go into an over excited ramble on what the image MIGHT tell us (yes, the Na'vi female-like character is holding a bow and arrow, appears to have a tail and ears and only 3 toes) but I'd just like to point out that this film is Cameron's first "proper" film since 1997's Titanic. He's been bumming around directing exploration documentaries (oh, and a short stint on Entourage) for a while so it's good to see one of the industry's best back at what he does best. Remember, this is the guy who brought us Aliens and The Terminator so sci fi is no stranger to him.

The film opens in the US on May 22nd, 2009.

Balls On Strings Never Looked So Cool

Engadget has a little write up and a video showing an art installation at BMW's museum in Munich. Imagine a field of 714 silver orbs floating on air flowing in and out of various shapes (including cars).

It took me a while to figure it out but the video shows near the end that they're suspended on fine strings (probably fishing wire or something). Still, very cool and relaxing... *sigh*

If nothing else this proves BMW has plenty of balls.

Just How Filthy Is Everything?

Paul Curtis is a "reverse graffiti" artist. He goes around and selectively cleans areas to show just how dirty the wall or whatever really is. In the video on AutoblogGreen you see him take on a tunnel wall which is almost black with filth. He cleans off areas with stencils to reveal the original wall underneath in a much lighter hue leaving his design.
