Riley Freeman is The Karate Kid

I just got some spam from Sony Pictures for the "remake" of The Karate Kid (note: there is no karate in this film, it's all kung fu) and there was a photo of Will Smith's kid Jaden who plays the protagonist alongside Jackie Chan. If you're a fan of Adult Swim's The Boondocks you'll recognise this kid immediately.

Yes folks, that kid is the spitting image of one Riley Freeman, the wannabe gansta youngest grandson of Robert Freeman. Check it...

What makes this even more humorous is that both the film and the TV show are property of Sony Pictures International. Cross promotion maybe?

Your 110" 1080p Setup Still Sucks

It seems that in today's gadget society the manufacturers are trying to make smaller projectors and larger TVs. Of course the large TV thing has been going on for a while (I remember when my dad got our huge 68cm Philips TV back in the day) but now it's got to be big and high resolution and for those suckers who thought 1080p was the be-all and end-all, think again.

Digital cinema has used 4K for a while (4,000-odd pixel wide display) but now it's coming to a home near you with Panasonic displaying (pun!) this gigantic 150" (3.8 meter) plasma TV at IFA running at a crazy 2,160 x 4,096 pixels.

The good news that this isn't just a pipe-dream like the 8K display we saw earlier in the year as these behemoths are going into production around May 2009, that's only 8 months away. Of course you'll need to sell off your house (and family) to afford one but imagine what it'd look like under the bridge you'll be living beneath.

This time last year the "biggest" non-projected display was a measly 103" plasma and can be seen in the image above/left being dwarfed by its giant little brother.

Dexter Season 3, Hopefully Not As Bad As Season 2

Movieweb has a promo video (see below) for the upcoming season 3 of everyone's favourite serial killer, Dexter Morgan.

Showtime went out of their way to avoid the story line from the second book in season 2 ultimately making a horrible mess of one of TV's best characters. The annoying British chick, Dexter not killing anyone for episode after episode, it was all too much. I just hope that they don't screw up season 3.

From what I saw in the promo, Showtime are avoiding the 3rd book's story line which explored the supernatural side of Dexter's "Dark Passenger". A lot of fans were disappointed with book 3's departure from the normal world in which the first two books were set but I quite enjoyed it.

The fourth book in the series (Dexter by Design) is due next year and Season 3 of the TV show starts on September 28th this year.

Vegas Baby, Vegas!

Among all the other bits of information in this post at tv.com was one paragraph I've been BUSTING to hear for ages. Yes, the coolest, hippest show currently on TV is finally returning.

"According to multiple online reports, Entourage will return for its fifth season on September 7. The show will feature a new roster of guest stars, including Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kevin Pollak."

JOY!

Big-Ass Telly Makes Your Eyes Pop, Wallet Collapse

Sick of that tiny 80" plasma screen taking up half your house? Well, sell the house and find a large area under a bridge (with a power outlet) to fit this 108" $100K LCD behemoth. Engadget tells me the Sharp LB-1085 features "...a 108-ASV 1080p LCD panel with a 400 cd/m2 brightness, 1,200:1 contrast, 6-ms response, and 176-degree viewing angle. Around back you'll find 3x HDMI, 1x DVI, 2x component, and a smattering of other in-and-out. It measures 8.4 x 0.66 x 5.1-feet and weighs 430-pounds (195kg)". Holy crap... almost 200kgs!
