Mystery Transformer Revealed

As most people had already guessed the mysterious car that kept showing up on the set of Transformers 2 was a Corvette concept car. Well Autoblog has some more details on this silvery sharky beast.

"According to their sources, the design study will debut sometime next year ahead of the Transformers sequel, but won't foretell the future of the next-generation C7 Corvette. Rather, it's called the Corvette Centennial Design Concept and was developed to celebrate General Motors' 100-year celebration.

Now we can all sleep soundly.

Queenslanders Wake Up, Invent New Engine

Revetec, a Gold Coast, Australia-based company has created a new type of internal combustion engine, dubbed the "controlled combustion engine", which uses half as much fossil fuels, is half the weight and is cheaper to make than a similarly sized modern engine.

If that's not enough, because the engine delivers higher torque, and can perform and operate well at much lower revs than a conventional engine, the noise levels are lower.

gas2.org reports that Revetec have a prototype which has been attached to an actual vehicle and independently tested to substantiate their claims.

Even in the foreseeable future we'll be needing secondary engines to give battery powered cars extended range by charging batteries on the go. Platforms like GM's E-Flex system, to be used first in the Chevy Volt, are designed in such a way that the secondary motor can be replaced with pretty much anything that can generate electricity. GM should talk to Revetec.

Thanks for the tip Ottey!

HSV W427 Price and Release Date

HSV has issued a press release confirming that HSV's super rocket, the 375kW/640NM W427, is due for release this August.

HSV plan to release only 427 of these $150,000 AUD beasts but with a 7 litre engine you'll need that much again just to run it.

Check out more details over at Car Advice.

Saleen Gurney Edition Mustang is Teh HOtness

Your "standard" Mustang is a fierce looking beast and Shelby's GT500KR ups the ante but the latest makeover from Saleen makes me swoon (in a very manly way). I've never liked the Mustang in blue (black all the way) but this new one with the 70s racings stripes is way cool... oh, and it goes like the clappers! Check out more pics over at Autoblog.

World's First First Person RC Car

Way up high on the cool list is this little number. It may look like a regular RC car but check out those goggles. They're video goggles (like the 1990s VR goggles) which are wirelessly hooked up to the head of the driver with pan and tilt sensors built in. What does that mean? Well, you actually see out of the eyes of the driver and when you move your head "he" moves "his" head. Check out the video on Autoblog to see how cool this is.

Pure Krome "Sing It Back, Bling It Back"

Autoblog tells me today that some crazy oil-baron has decided to take his perfectly good Ferrari 599 and CHROME it! ...and I'm not talking about sniffing propellant either! Silly bugger... you'd have to hire a team of cleaners to keep the finger prints off it.

Worst Ideas of the 21st Century #10

I can see why someone might think that biofuels have a benefit over fossil fuels in that they are a renewable energy source but enough is enough. I'm pretty sure last time I checked humans need food before the ability to drive a giant car around. AutoblogGreen reports on a group called Food Before Fuel who are protesting the US government's policies on biofuels.
ABG reports that "...these policies are responsible to up to 30 percent of the world's food price inflation." and "...corn is more expensive for food producers and food ends up being more expensive for consumers." So not only are we taking food out of our own mouths but the food we DO get costs more! BRILLIANT!

Now THAT Is Damn Ugly

Seriously... what the hell are you thinking Dodge? Thanks to AutoblogGreen for the vomit-inducing pic.

Transformers 2 Call Sheet Reveals All (kinda)

ComicBookMovie.com have gotten their grubby little hands on a call sheet for Transformers 2 from June 4th. Other than all the spoilerific juicy bits in there (including mention of an "R8" transformer and the return

Arcee (left)) there's a bunch of stuff on there that is interesting from a movie point of view. For example, apparently Megan Fox and Shia LeBeouf are sharing a hotel room in LA (let's start a rumour hey?)... But read through the Special Requirements/Notes for all the juicy goodness...

From Concept to Production

Autoblog went for a spin in the 2009 Ford Flex and made a good point that the Flex is VERY close to the Ford Fairlane "People Mover" concept from 2005. Well, here's a side-by-side comparison to show you just how close they are...

Is It a Bird? Is It a Concept Car? Is It a Bumblebee Evil Twin?

Autoblog today was reporting on this mysterious shiny, silver, sleek beast hiding on the Transformers 2 set. The commenters on the site are all taking guesses from a Corvette concept to a rejigged Camaro to a film-exclusive model. Whatever it is (and it's not exactly easy to see from the photo) it's pretty cool with the photographer stating that it has "scissor doors like a Lamborghini".

Bendy BMW GINA Concept Car

Today Autoblog posted an article about a wikkid looking BMW concept car which has no solid panels but rather a stretchy fabric "skin" covering a moveable but safe skeleton. Just a quick glance and you wouldn't notice anything whacky but when it BLINKS at you or opens up its chest to display the engine underneath you'll have trouble stopping yourself from saying "COOL!"
