Invite Your Friends To The Facebook Movie

From the WTF section of the human race comes news today that Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, Studio 60, Charlie Wilson's War) is currently writing a movie about the inception of Facebook. No, you didn't misread that, a movie about Facebook.

Sorkin has created a Facebook page and an Aaron Sorkin & the Facebook Movie Group on Facebook where he states that he is indeed writing the script.

"I've just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented. I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've started this page. (Actually it was started by my researcher, Ian Reichbach, because my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she's been dead for 33 years.)"

What's next? A book about Google?

Bender's Got Game

If you're a fan of Futurama (like me) then you've probably already seen the first two straight-to-DVD feature length films released since its revival. Well strap yourself in and prepare for the third installment as Futurama: Bender's Game is due for release on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 4.

Here's a little plot outline to whet your appetite. "With fuel prices skyrocketing, the Planet Express crew sets off on a dangerous mission to infiltrate the world's only dark-matter mine, source of all spaceship fuel. But deep beneath the surface, they discover a far stranger place... a medieval land of dragons and sorcery and intoxicated knights who look suspiciously like Bender."

Strange that out of 3 films 2 of them star Bender (well, his name is in the title). I guess the producers of the show know that Bender is the greatest!

Thanks to Movieweb for the tip.

Return Of The Big Movies

While the rest of the world sits back and watches the US of A enjoy their fireworks and whatnot over their big weekend we also get the benefits of the big movies that open at this time of the year.

It's been quiet of late in the world of cinema but taking a look at the recent US Box Office charts over at IMDb I'm glad to see we have a return to form. Up there we have Indy 4 kicking ass and fighting strong after weeks of being in the top 10 and about to reach the $750M USD global box office mark.

This week we saw Hancock open with a healthy $62M USD and little Wall-E was standing strong in second place with a running total of $127M. Pity we have to wait another month or two before we (officially) get to see Wall-E.

The other big names in this week's list are Kung Fu Panda and Hulk v2.0. I've seen the panda movie and enjoyed it but have yet to see the big green guy get angry again.

Back To The Feet-ure

I love it when classic movies meet modern tech and this is certainly one to be proud of. You may remember Marty McFly's bitchin' Nikes in Back to the Future II (the ones he had on while hoverboarding around). Well Nike appear to be making a very similar pair for the real world.

Now we just need to keep our fingers crossed for the auto-sizing, self-drying puffa jacket.

RIP Stan Winston, We Will Always Remember Your Monsters

Movie special effects and makeup guru Stan Winston has died at the young age of 62 after a seven year struggle with multiple myeloma. You may not know his name but you will surely know his films. To name just a few: Aliens, Predator, Terminator 2 and most recently Iron Man. I tip my hat to one of the greats.

Is It a Bird? Is It a Concept Car? Is It a Bumblebee Evil Twin?

Autoblog today was reporting on this mysterious shiny, silver, sleek beast hiding on the Transformers 2 set. The commenters on the site are all taking guesses from a Corvette concept to a rejigged Camaro to a film-exclusive model. Whatever it is (and it's not exactly easy to see from the photo) it's pretty cool with the photographer stating that it has "scissor doors like a Lamborghini".

Stuntman Dies & 6 Others Injured On John Woo set

A Stuntman was killed on the set of John Woo's latest film "Red Cliff" today when two boats collided (intentionally), caught fire (intentionally) with the fire then burning out of control (unintentionally).
