Electric Dance Floor

Engadget has an interesting write up on a club in the UK which has an electricity generating dance floor. The up and down motions of the dancers cause the floor to push in and out generating electricity, not through magnets and coils like you may think but through a piezoelectric system. The generated power is then used to power some parts of the club.

Now all we need are for gyms to harness the wasted energy from people cycling and running on the spot to use in powering those very same machines or even the 50 plasma screens around the gym that show ads to the paying customers.
