Ever since I saw Boba Fett go flying with his jetpack safely secured to his back I've wanted to have my own personal flying machine. That said, I didn't want to bash into the side of Jabba's sail barge nor fall into Sarlacc's mouth and of course he must have been wearing asbestos undies to avoid charring his cheeks... but I digress.
Below is a video of the Martin Jetpack in action and while it's not quite as compact as Boba's (or Jango's for that matter) jetpack this one is actually real... and noisy... and expensive. The video only shows it hovering with the aid of two burly gents holding it in place while the pilot sits there going deaf but you get the idea.
According to Engadget the Martin Jetpack will set you back a tidy $100K USD (that's the price of a Tesla Roadster!), can only hover for around 30 minutes and rise to 8,000 feet. People who buy one will also have to complete 15 hours of flight training as well as a "safety screening".
Either way, it's a step in the right direction. No more roads!
